Luota 2005 Project

Location:

Luota County, Xiangxi Prefecture, Hunan Province, China

Background:

Luota is a karst area in northwest Hunan with over 900m of relief, numerous cave entrances and a large resurgence. The Chinese government proposes to build a 180m high dam at the resurgence to generate much needed power.

Objectives:

Assist the Karst Institute to assess dam feasibility by exploring and mapping caves in the area. Also assess the area's potential for future expeditions.
