Xinhua 2003 Project

Xinhua County, Hunan Province, China

Background:

In northwest Xinhua county, to the west of the Zi Shui river there is an area of Carboniferous limestone. Recently the Guilin Karst Institute developed Mei Shan Long Gong in Ai Jiang Qi village as a showcave . This cave has many different levels and is thought to be part of a larger system comprised of both fossil and active caves.

Objectives:

Aims of the project will be to establish contacts in Hunan, obtain maps of the area, and ascertain potential for future expeditions. To this end the project will aim to extend the current showcave and survey fossil and active caves known to be upstream of the showcave.
