Independent Yongsheng Recce 2008

Overview

Dates:

24 January 2008 - 30 January 2008

Location:

Yongsheng, Lijiang County, Yunnan Province, China

Background:

Located in northern Yunnan, Yongsheng is an area with interesting geology, including lots of non-karst. A big valley/set of closed depressions parallel to the Yangtze form a karst - nonkarst boundary suggesting caves, but also suggesting good flood pulse potential.

Objectives:

This preliminary recce found a number of entrances, including numerous 10-30m deep pits in one area. In a second area an entrance at 3084m had a clean-washed 3m streamway descending steadily. A third area had an 80m shaft.
