Zhangjiajie 2004 Project

Overview

Dates:

17 March 2004 - 10 April 2004

Location:

Zhangjiajie County, Hunan Province, China

Background:

In winter 2003 over 20 entrances were noted on the plateau near the summit of Zhangjiajie's 1500m Tian Men Shan, but due to threat of snow closing the mountian trail, there was not enough time to finish exploration. In particular, Gui Dong was left going at -90m with a strong draught and open passage.

Objectives:

Continue exploration near Tian Men Shan, focusing on the strongly draughting Gui Dong and Shi Dong in the south and large entrances in the west which can only be reached by abseiling down the sheer cliffs which ring the plateau.
