If you plan to be in China for more than a month, we strongly advise bringing a Mandarin phrasebook. You can buy them at the Star Ferry pier in Hong Kong, but they're cheaper in the UK or US and you can't find them in mainland China. I have the Lonely Planet Mandarin Phrasebook, which I consider one of my most valuable and useful possesions. I also have a pocket-sized Chinese-English, English-Chinese dictionary (be careful--most of them only go one way) . Dictionaries are available in most major cities for 25 or 35 Yuan (depending on the edition). Email me before you come out if you're interested in a dictionary.

We have language learning tapes for Chinese. Email us if you want copies and you're coming out for an expedition.
